Description

Take in phenomenal scenery along the cliff-faced western shore of Elba Island, where Napoleon was exiled, and stop in three luminous fishing villages. Enjoy a picturesque ferry journey of approximately one hour to Elba, the Tuscan Archipelago’s largest island. You’ll drive to Marciana Marina, a village of narrow streets and a rich maritime heritage, known for its export of salt tuna. Learn that the waterfront watchtower dates to the 11th century and was used to defend the city from pirate attacks. You’ll journey around the thoroughly beautiful western coast of Elba, hardly an unpleasant place for Napoleon’s, or anyone’s, exile, and discover that much of the interior is comprised of wooded mountains, with craggy Mount Capanne being the highest point on Elba.

For a glimpse at traditional life, you’ll stop in either Chiessi or Pomonte, both beach-blessed villages in the region known as the Costa del Sole. During time on your own, partake in lunch and explore the town or spend time on the beach. Cross to the island’s eastern coast and conclude your enlightening excursion in wonderful Porto Azzurro, where you’ll be free to shop, walk along the beach or visit the 17th-century Santuario della Madonna di Monserrato.

If you wish to swim during free time, wear a swimsuit under your clothing and bring a towel from the ship.
