  • OVERLAND - TREASURED TEMPLES & ORANGUTANS - 2024 CODE: SEML01

Visit the 9th-century Hindu temple Prambanan and Borobudur, the world’s largest Buddhist temple, before flying off to Borneo for the rare opportunity to watch endangered orangutans and sun bears in protected habitats.

Observação especial: Any guests travelling with Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) or CPAP breathing machines should read further below for airline stipulations with regards to bringing this equipment on tour.

    DAY 1 – 16 mar 2024

After disembarking the ship in Semarang, you will meet your guide and transfer to Yogyakarta to visit the 9th-century temple Prambanan. The temple is a magnificent piece of architecture adorned with sculptures and reliefs that are considered masterworks of Hindu art.

Unlike many temple complexes, Prambanan was not constructed in a symmetrical manner. The largest of its temples, dedicated to Shiva, rises majestically more than 150 feet into the air and is lavishly carved. If the day is clear, the temple will be silhouetted against the bright blue sky, a sight that is absolutely extraordinary.

Lunch follows at Rumah Sleman, a spectacular lodge, part of which was a home built in 1814 and moved to this location. The traditional Javanese ambiance and exquisite cuisine will make for a delightful dining experience.

After lunch, you will visit Borobudur Temple. The world’s largest Buddhist temple, Borobudur was built during the 8th and 9th centuries. It was constructed in three tiers, the topmost containing 72 openwork stupas, each with a statue of Buddha inside. The guide will describe the construction and significance of Borobudur, a monument so important that UNESCO deemed it a World Heritage site.

Following your visit, you will check into the luxury resort Amanjiwo in the shadow of Borobudur. The remainder of the day will be free to enjoy as you please. Dinner is included at your hotel.

    DAY 2 – 17 mar 2024

Following breakfast at the hotel, you will check-out and meet the guide that will accompany you to the airport for the flight to Balikpapan on the eastern coast of Borneo.

Upon landing, you will transfer to Samboja Lodge, which sits in midst of a rainforest. The lodge was designed in a local architectural style using recycled materials wherever possible and is decorated with handicrafts from the Dayaks, the non-Muslim indigenous people of Borneo.

A foundation dedicated to the survival of Borneo’s endangered orangutans created the lodge and nurture the more than 200 orangutans that inhabit the six manmade islands around the grounds. You will have the opportunity to observe the orangutans that live in a sanctuary near the lodge.

Should time allow based on flight schedules, enjoy a leisurely boat ride to seek out the endangered proboscis monkey and other wildlife.

Later, you will enjoy dinner at Samboja Lodge and spend an evening in the wonderfully harmonious setting.

    DAY 3 – 18 mar 2024

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before checking out.

This morning, you will have the opportunity to observe the orangutans, as well as the sun bears that live in a sanctuary near the lodge.

The animals are fed fruits, vegetables and leafy branches from the surrounding rainforest. To help ensure the sustainability of their food supply, you will help plant a fruit tree in a suitable location (If time permit)

Later transferred to the Balikpapan Airport for the flight to Singapore.

  • OVERLAND - BALINESE CULTURE & HANGING GARDENS CODE: SEML03

Stay at the exotic Hanging Gardens resort and delve into the Balinese culture while exploring characteristic temples, an ancient court of justice and a rural village where traditional ways are still practiced.

Observação especial: Guests travelling with Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) or CPAP breathing machines should read further below for airline stipulations with regards to bringing this equipment on tour.

This program is limited to 10 guests

    DAY 1 – 1 dez 2024

After arriving at Tanjung Emas harbor in Semarang, you will transfer with a guide to the village of Magelang to visit Borobudur temple, which was built in the 8th century during the Cailendra Dynasty. The name Borobudur is supposedly derived from Sanskrit, meaning the Buddhist monastery on the hill.

Although the largest Buddhist temple in Indonesia, Borobudur was abandoned for centuries and lay hidden under layers of volcanic ash until English military engineers discovered it in the early 19th century. A massive restoration took place from 1973 to 1984.

Following your exploration of Borobudur, lunch will be served at Manohara, a restaurant on the temple slopes.

You will then drive to Omah Kecebong, a cultural center with a traditional guest house, horticultural garden and rice fields. You will tour the complex in a VW automobile and, if you wish, don traditional clothing to enhance the experience.

Later in the afternoon, you will drive to Jogja and check into the Hyatt Regency Yogyakarta or a similar hotel for the evening. Dinner will be served at the hotel.

    DAY 2 – 2 dez 2024

After breakfast at the hotel and some free time, you will check out and then transfer to Yogyakarta International Airport for the flight to Bali.

Upon arriving in Bali, you will transfer to the Hanging Gardens of Bali or a similar hotel, where you will enjoy dinner and spend the next two evenings.

Located in an exotic jungle setting near the town of Ubud and offering spectacular views of the Dalem Segara temple, the luxurious Hanging Gardens of Bali resort provides a serene respite from the hustle and bustle of urban life. Perched on a hillside, the alang-alang thatched-roof boutique resort features one of the world’s most spectacular swimming pools, fairytale gardens and an absolutely paradisical ambiance. Few experiences are quite like staying at the Hanging Gardens of Bali.

    DAY 3 – 3 dez 2024

After breakfast at the hotel, you will drive through the surrounding gorgeous rural landscape to the rice terraces of Tegallalang, which cling to the terrain’s lush slopes. There you will gain an understanding of how the rice is grown and harvested by hand.

You will continue to Gunung Kawi Temple, an 11th-century archaeological complex carved out of the rock. The views from there will be absolutely beautiful.

Following lunch at a local restaurant, you will stop at Tegenungan waterfall, a wonderful place to relax and take in the soothing sounds of the cascade.

Back at the hotel, you will enjoy dinner on your own.

    DAY 4 – 4 dez 2024

After breakfast at the hotel and check out, you will drive to Penglipuran Culture Village, a charming setting with beautifully landscaped homes sitting neatly in a row along a street that runs through the center of the village toward the main temple. The villagers live under strict rules much like their ancestors centuries ago, and the architecture reflects that tradition as the houses face Mt. Agung, home of the gods. Additionally, each house has its own temple.

You can enter any of the houses, where you will be welcomed by residents who will be happy to show you around their living quarters, which follow an old Balinese architectural style.

Afterwards, you will dine at local restaurant and then visit Kerta Gosa, an ancient court of justice. You can’t help but admire the traditional Balinese architecture throughout. The most distinctive feature is the exquisite painted ceilings in the halls that showcase a technique known as Kamasan.

You will also visit a factory that produces batik clothing, which is synonymous with Bali. Batik is the technique of dying fabrics to create designs that typically reflect nature, although geometric patterns are also popular. It is a fascinating process and this behind-the-scenes opportunity to see it firsthand will be eye-opening.

Continuing on, you will check into Andaz Bali or a similar hotel for dinner and to spend the evening.

    Day 5 – 5 dez 2024

After breakfast at the hotel and check out, you will drive to Denpasar, the capital of Bali Province. It was once the capital of the Badung Empire, controlling the southern region of Bali Island from the end of 18th century until it was conquered by the Dutch in 1906.

Your first stop will be at the Bajra Sandhi Monument, which commemorates the Balinese struggle against Dutch colonialism. Designed in the shape of a Hindu bell, the monument contains dozens of detailed dioramas that depict Bali’s history, including the introduction of Hinduism and the country’s eventual independence.

Continuing on, you will stop in Badung Market, a vibrant hub of activity that never closes. As you browse the stalls, you will find every type of merchandise imaginable, including batik textiles, exotic seafood and garden-fresh produce.

You will next visit the Bali Museum and the glorious Temple of Jagatnatha, a Hindu Kahyangan Temple, both of which will leave you with a deeper understanding of the culture.

Afterwards, you will dine at the Inna Bali Heritage Hotel, the first international-class hotel in Bali. World leaders and celebrities such as Queen Elizabeth, Charlie Chaplin, Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru have all stayed there, usually in the luxurious Room 77.

Following lunch, you will drive to the port of Benoa and embark the cruise ship.

After breakfast at the hotel and check out, you will drive to Batubulan to watch a Barong dance performance that tells a story of the fight of good versus evil.

You will continue to Gunung Kawi Temple, an 11th-century archaeological complex carved out of the rock. The views from there will be absolutely beautiful.

You will enjoy views of rice fields during lunch at a local restaurant.

You will next visit Celuk village, which is known for its gold and silver handicrafts. Nearly all of the villagers are skilled at crafting these beautiful pieces that are exported worldwide.

You will gain a different perspective of the local culture at a traditional Balinese house compound. The Balinese home is often viewed as a living organism. It has a head (the ancestral shrine), arms (the sleeping quarters and living room) and legs and feet (the kitchen and rice granaries.) An up-close look at the house compound will give you a glimpse into conventional Balinese life.

Continuing on, you will arrive in Benoa harbour and embark the cruise ship.
