Land Programs & Hotels

  • Double your adventure by visiting two vastly different game reserves and lodges, and head into the bush to observe iconic wildlife on as many as 8 safaris—an opportunity that conventional 3-night programs can’t match.

    GORAH ELEPHANT CAMP:

Experience the adventure and romantic mystique of an authentic African safari reminiscent of centuries past. Gorah Elephant Camp is a luxurious tented camp, with a gracious manor house overlooking a waterhole teeming with game in the heart of the Addo National Park. Each of the 11 tents at Gorah has its own private deck offering a panoramic view of the endless savannah plains. The plush interior of the tent is enhanced through the simplicity and the authenticity of solar-power lighting and ceiling fans. The en suite bathroom with vanities and shower is discreetly situated to allow for complete privacy.

SHAMWARI GAME RESERVE: Long Lee Manor

The historical Manor House dating back to 1910 offers uncompromised luxury in an unprecedented setting. This lodge boasts Edwardian styled suites and a beautiful rim-flow pool. Its manicured gardens, pools and ponds, terraces and verandas all overlook the magnificent plains teeming with wildlife. Your “Plains Room” has a veranda and outdoor shower as well as an en-suite bathroom with bath and shower.

Note: This program ends in Cape Town therefore departure flights must be out of the Cape Town International Airport.

Special Note: Any guests travelling with Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) or CPAP breathing machines should read further below for airline stipulations with regards to bringing this equipment on tour.

Program details and number of game drives subject to change based on flight details.

    Day 1

After disembarking the ship in Cape Town, you will be met and transferred to the Cape Town International Airport for a domestic flight to Port Elizabeth. On arrival at Port Elizabeth Airport, you will transfer 1.5 - 2 hours by road to your first safari destination – Gorah Elephant Camp.

Gorah is the only private concession and Camp situated in the middle of the famous Addo Elephant National Park, home to the densest population of elephants on earth. Gorah is malaria-free and is home to the Big 5.

Depending on the time of arrival, you will enjoy lunch and then free time at the lodge. In the afternoon, you will gather in the main lodge for tea followed by an open-vehicle game drive. Later, you will return to the lodge for dinner and to spend the evening.

NOTE: Activities and meals on this day are subject to your flight time

    Day 2

You will spend the entire day at Gorah Elephant Camp, where two game drives and all meals are included.

    Day 3

After one last game drive and breakfast at Gorah Elephant Camp, collect your belongings and check out. A local representative will meet and accompany you to your second safari destination – Shamwari Game Reserve and Long Lee Manor, about an hour and 20-minute drive away.

Shamwari, meaning “my friend” in Shona, is the pinnacle of private game reserves and home to the coveted Big 5. A stay at Shamwari Private Game Reserve is one that will remain with you forever. Due to its location in the heart of the Eastern Cape, the reserve offers abundant wildlife, fauna and flora exclusive to the area and unforgettable encounters with nature.

Upon arrival, check in, enjoy lunch and have time to freshen up and check out your surroundings. Later in the day head out for an evening game drive in 4x4 vehicles. Following your game drive dinner will be served in the manor house.

    Day 4

On arrival at Cape Town International Airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel for the evening. The remainder of the day is at your leisure and dinner is on your own.

NOTE: Activities and meals on this day are subject to your flight time

*Guests on Splendor's December 06, 2024 sailing will enjoy a Christmas meal on this day - either lunch or dinner at the hotel depending on arrival flight time.

    Day 6

Should you have a late flight, luggage storage will be available at the hotel or alternatively you may wish to purchase an extra night to guarantee a room for the day.

    Please note:

-The contents and order of activities in this program are subject to change by the lodge management without prior notice, due to the prevailing weather conditions and movement of dangerous wildlife on the reserve.

-Whilst this is a safari area, the animals are wild and so sightings cannot be guaranteed.

-During early morning game drives in open vehicles it can be a little cool. We recommend that guests take along a windbreaker.

-During the day, it can get extremely hot. The game drive vehicles are not covered – and guests are therefore exposed to the elements. Guests are therefore advised not to forget their sunhats, sun block, sunglasses, as well as their cameras and binoculars.

-The roads in the game reserve are gravel. There are also inclines and certain parts of the game-drive can be bumpy. Not recommended for guests with back & neck problems or pregnant ladies.

-This program is suitable for guests with walking disabilities, providing that a travel companion or spouse accompanies them. Please also note that confirmation would be strictly subject to availability of handicapped rooms at the time of booking.

-No children under 6 years of age are allowed on safari.

-This program is not fully guided. Local representatives will assist you with your transfers however, the program at the lodge and hotel is run solely and at the discretion by the lodge/hotel staff.

  • Getaway to the Garden Route – a roughly 186-mile (300km) drive of spectacular beauty along the southwest coast of South Africa. Known for its ecologically diverse vegetation, numerous lagoons, forests, lakes, and beautiful beaches, this region is easily accessible by road from Cape Town and highlights all the beautiful sights South Africa has to offer. Come face to face with a myriad of wildlife, flora and fauna during a 4x4 game drive in Sanbona Nature Reserve. Visit a working ostrich farm, explore the Cango Caves and board a ferry cruise in Knysna lagoon for lunch and scenic views. This option is perfect for those who have done a safari before, for those who don’t want to fly during their program and for those who are lovers of all things nature.

    DAY 1

Disembark the ship in Cape Town and travel overland to Sanbona Private Game Reserve. The drive takes approximately 4 hours but the scenery along the way will keep you captivated.

Pass by diverse vegetation and wildlife, lagoons, lakes, mountains and forests. And then once you arrive at Sanbona, prepare to immerse yourself in a landscape where wildlife and flora leave you even more captivated and transformed. Sanbona is one of South Africa’s largest privately-owned nature reserves, stretching across 58 000 hectares of rich protected ecosystems within two biodiversity hotspots.

Owned by a non-profit company focused on steering conservation to the forefront of the safari experience, Sanbona strives to create a balance where critically important ecosystems, endangered wildlife and flora can prosper for the benefit of future generations.

Here you will spend your time exploring every corner of this immense reserve, endless open plains and sculpted Cape fold mountains adorned with San rock art, the endemic flora and some of South Africa’s most sought-after wildlife.

On arrival at Sanbona’s Tilney Manor, enjoy lunch followed by check-in formalities and some time to get acquainted with your surroundings. Enjoy breathtaking views of the mountains and landscape from your open plan suite and your private verandah.

Guest experiences include authentic Karoo cuisine, luxurious lounges, a rim flow pool and a Relaxation Retreat where you can indulge your senses in their steam room and sauna while witnessing a stunning Karoo sunset.

Following an afternoon nature drive, return to the lodge and freshen up prior to a delicious dinner.

    DAY 2

Enjoy a morning nature drive followed by breakfast and check-out formalities.

Embark on an overland transfer to the ‘Feather Capital’ of South Africa – Oudtshoorn – traveling via Barrydale, Ladismith and Carlitzdorp.

On arrival in Oudtshoorn, enjoy lunch (ostrich meat is optionally included) followed by an interactive ostrich farm experience.

Take a ride on the only Ostrich Tractor Tour inside a breeder bird camp. You will see South African “Black”, Kenyan “Red” Ostrich and Zimbabwean “Blue” Ostriches. The ride continues through the chick rearing compartment where you can view chicks in their various stages of development.

Following some free time to browse in the curio shop, transfer to your overnight hotel. Rosenhof Country House is a 5-star boutique hotel situated in the charming Klein Karoo town of Oudtshoorn. With its luxurious facilities and excellent service, Rosenhof is recognized as one of the finest establishments in the region.

Check-in and enjoy free time until dinner is served at the hotel.

    DAY 3

After a relaxing breakfast, check-out, and drive to Cango Caves for a 1-hour Heritage tour.

Your visit commences with details on the real discoverers and inhabitants of the cave and then winds its way through the rest of the Caves’ cultural and historical heritage. Its an easy walk through the first six largest and most spectacular halls and continues through to the "African Drum room".

Experienced and knowledgeable guides will accompany you on this journey of discovery and knowledge.

Departing the Cango Caves, travel over Outeniqua Pass and you make your way to the town of Knysna, passing George and Sedgefield en route. One of the main attractions in Knysna is its lagoon or estuary. There are five freshwater rivers flowing in from the surrounding Outeniqua Mountains meeting with the surge of sea water from the Indian Ocean through the mighty headlands known as the Knysna Heads.

On arrival, embark on a double-decker boat lunch cruise on the Knysna lagoon (not private). Some of the bird species that may be spotted around the lagoon include sandpipers, stilts, herons, the malachite and pied kingfishers, black oyster catcher, African fish eagle, Knysna woodpecker, and Knysna warbler. Dolphins may also be seen exploring the warm waters here at any time.

Following the cruise, transfer to your next overnight hotel for dinner and the evening at leisure. The 5-star Turbine Boutique Hotel and Spa was an ambitious project which transformed an old power station into a unique hotel. All the old machinery which was used in this power station has been restored and forms an integral part of the hotel’s aesthetics. Enjoy its fascinating history as you walk past massive turbines on the balcony and marvel at the intriguing steel pillars and pipes that now form part of the hotel’s quirky décor.

PLEASE NOTE – This POST-Cruise Program ends in Johannesburg and therefore guests need to fly out of Johannesburg, South Africa. The following program details are for reference purposes only and subject to change based on flights that can be confirmed at or around 60 days prior to sailing.

Special Note: Any guests travelling with Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) or CPAP breathing machines should read further below for airline stipulations with regards to bringing this equipment on tour.

    DAY 1

Disembark in Cape Town, meet your guide and transfer to your city-based hotel. En-route you will have an orientation tour. Check in is at 2:00pm and although every effort will be made to have rooms available before this time, this cannot be guaranteed. Luggage storage will be available should you wish to head into the city to explore on your own.

Your hotel is located in the bustling Victoria and Alfred Waterfront where you will find a wide array of shopping and dining options. Lunch and dinner are on your own today.

    DAY 2

After breakfast and check out, transfer to the Cape Town airport for a flight to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.

As guests may only bring one piece of checked luggage per person, excess luggage (1 piece per person) will be shipped via courier to Johannesburg where you will be re-united with it on Day 5. Make sure to pack accordingly and bring any medications and cruise documents with you.

Upon arriving in Victoria Falls, proceed through Customs and Immigration. You will then be met and transferred to the Victoria Falls Hotel. Note: Visas are required for Zimbabwe and can be purchased at the airport upon arrival.

After check-in, transfer to the Zambezi River and embark on a sunset cruise (shared departure). Depending on the size of the group the boat may either be a covered single level sightseeing boat or a larger boat with multiple levels. Enjoy a beverage from this vantage point whilst watching the sunset and possibly sighting hippos, crocodiles, various birdlife and maybe even an elephant or two along the banks of the river.

Your boat cruise is followed up with dinner back at the hotel.

    DAY 3

After breakfast and check out, transfer to the Victoria Falls Rainforest where you will have a guided walk.

Located on the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe, Victoria Falls is the world’s largest curtain of falling water, based on the falls’ one-mile width and height of 360 feet. It’s an amazing spectacle to watch as the Zambezi River roars over the edge of a basalt gorge, forming what locals call Mosi-Oa-Tunya or “the smoke that thunders”. In November 1885, after seeing the falls for the first time, Scottish explorer and Doctor David Livingstone re-named them after Queen Victoria.

A path along the edge of the rainforest provides visitors with an unparalleled series of views of the falls but be prepared to get wet from the tremendous spray!

NOTE: the cobblestone walkways within the rainforest can be slippery if wet and some spots are at a gradient. Proper walking shoes that have a good grip should be worn, and guests should wear appropriate clothing to get wet. Due to the amount of walking and terrain, this program is not suited for guests who have walking difficulty or who utilize a wheelchair or scooter. Walking distance will be 2-4km (1.24 – 2.48 miles).

Continue by road across the Zimbabwe – Botswana border to Chobe Chilwero. Your lodge is located on the Chobe River, not far from the entrance to Chobe National Park.

Check in, enjoy lunch at the lodge and then some free time to get acquainted with your surroundings.

A bit later in the day, gather in the main lodge for tea and snacks followed by a game drive in Chobe National Park. Safaris are conducted in 4x4 open side vehicles and led by qualified professional guides who will bring you close to hippos, buffalos, puku and other animals that gather on the banks of the Chobe River. Naturally, elephants, lion and leopard are also found in the area.

Return to your lodge thereafter for dinner and overnight.

    DAY 4

After an early-morning wake-up call and coffee and tea in the lobby, you will embark on a morning game drive in 4x4 open-air safari vehicles.

Along with elephant, lion, leopard and buffalo, Chobe is also home to two antelope that aren’t encountered anywhere else in Botswana, the puku and the Chobe bushbuck. Declared a national park in 1967, Chobe was the first one established in Botswana and now covers more than 4,500 square miles of dry savannah, floodplains, and teak woodlands that are ideal animal habitats.

Returning from your morning safari, a full breakfast will be served after which you will have free time to do as you wish at the lodge.

Following lunch, you will embark on a cruise down the Chobe River – this is the ideal time to keep a look out for animals coming to the river for water.

Later dinner will be served at the lodge.

    DAY 5

After enjoying one last optional game drive and breakfast, check-out from the lodge and transfer to the Kasane Airport for a flight to Johannesburg.

Upon arrival at Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport, you will be met and assisted through passport control and baggage claim. You will then be escorted to your hotel where you will spend the remainder of the day at leisure. Your hotel is located within walking distance inside the terminal.

You will be reunited with any luggage that was shipped from Cape Town.

    DAY 6

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel. Check out time is 11:00am. You will be assisted on the walk to the Johannesburg Airport terminal based on your flight schedule. Should you have a late flight, luggage storage will be available at the hotel or alternatively you may wish to purchase an extra night to guarantee a room for the day.

    PLEASE NOTE

*This is a malaria risk area. Make sure that the necessary medication has been taken. Guests should seek their physicians’ advice regarding malaria precautions and other recommended immunizations. You must begin taking malaria precautions prior to your departure date.

*The contents and order of the activities in this program are subject to change by the lodge management without prior notice, due to the prevailing weather conditions and movement of dangerous wildlife in the Chobe National Park.

*The roads in the game reserve are gravel. There are also inclines, and certain parts of the game drive can be bumpy. This program is not recommended for guests with back problems.

*Bring warm clothing, as the evenings and early mornings are chilly.

*This program is not fully guided. Local representatives will assist you with your transfers and you will have a guide at Victoria Falls, however, the game drive and Chobe River cruise at the lodge and is run solely and at the discretion by the lodge/hotel staff.

*The water levels at Victoria Falls are season dependent. ‘Low Water’ runs between August and January and is at its lowest between November and early December. This is the time when there is very little spray and visitors are able to fully appreciate the geological formation of Victoria Falls and the full length and breadth of them.

    Expected Weather:

South Africa’s seasons are the reverse of those in the northern hemisphere. Midwinter is in June and midsummer at hottest temperatures in December and January. The climate varies from region to region but is generally mild throughout the year. The average daily temperature is 30°C and nighttime temperatures can drop to approximately 14°C.

The arrival of the rains trigger a dispersal of game from the Chobe River area but the warm, rainy December to March summer months are the best time to visit Chobe for bird watching, the impala birthing season (great for predators!) and to see the Savute zebra migration.

In Zimbabwe and Botswana, during summer (October – April), days are hot and generally sunny in the morning with possible afternoon thunderstorms. Daytime temperatures can rise to 30ºC (86 ºF) and night temperatures drop to around 14ºC (57.2 ºF) - 16ºC (60.8 ºF). The temperatures given are those for the main centers but it is considerably warmer all year round in the low-lying areas such as Kariba, Victoria Falls, and the Zambezi Valley. The rainy season runs from November to March, although the Eastern Highlands are damp for most of the year.

  • Savor the exquisite cuisine and vintage wines produced around Cape Town including multiple tastings, a food-focused walking tour through Stellenbosch, a wine blending class and a wine farm visit. Spend your evenings in a charming and historic boutique hotel located at the foot of the magnificent Paarl Rock.

Note: this program is limited to 30 guests.

    DAY 1

After disembarking in Cape Town, you will meet your guide for a brief city orientation tour en-route to the Grande Roche Hotel. This historic hotel boasts views of mountain ranges and rows of lush vineyards as well as having beautifully manicured gardens and innovative cuisine.

Upon arrival at your hotel, the remainder of the day will be at your leisure with lunch on your own.

Check in is 2:00pm. Although every effort will be made to have rooms ready before this time, this cannot be guaranteed, however, luggage can be stored at the reception desk so you can begin exploring the estate and its surrounds right away.

This evening, you will enjoy a wine pairing 3-course dinner at the hotel.

    DAY 2

Following breakfast, you will meet your tour guide in the hotel lobby and then depart for a full-day tour of the Cape Winelands featuring Stellenbosch, the Town of Oaks and the second-oldest town in South Africa.

Stellenbosch is a university town famous for its carefully preserved architectural heritage, which includes examples of Cape Dutch, Georgian and Victorian styles, especially on Dorp Street, which is lined with houses, cottages and shops. Rows of oaks and open spaces transform the streets into soft, shady tunnels. The oaks have actually been proclaimed national monuments.

Starting in the Old Town center with your specialized “foodie” guide, your walking tour will focus on fresh, local, sustainably produced, and seasonal produce. In addition to its international wine reputation, Stellenbosch is also home to curated, public art exhibitions. During your leisurely walk you will savor the handiwork of both enthusiastic food artisans and celebrated artists in Stellenbosch. Throughout, your guide will entertain you with stories about the history and culture of the area.

Your tour includes sampling home-grown teas paired with typical Cape sweet treats, traditional beef snacks from a local butchery, local produced wines with appetizing delights and the walk will conclude at one of the oldest hotels in Stellenbosch for a delicious heritage platter.

After lunch, re-board your coach and head to Blaauwklippen Wine Estate. Founded in 1682, Blaauwklippen is one of the oldest wine farms in Stellenbosch. Upon arrival you will be welcomed and will partake in a delectable wine and chocolate pairing followed by the unique opportunity to create a wine blend.

Start off by tasting three different wines lead by an experienced wine ambassador who will guide the group through the process showing how and why certain varieties harmonize better than others. You will then be challenged to create your own blend as a team.

After some time to explore the estate on your own it will be time to return to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure with dinner on your own. If you wish, the hotel’s concierge can assist you in making arrangements for an unforgettable dinner off site or you may choose to dine in-house.

    DAY 3

Following a leisurely breakfast at the hotel, you will meet your tour guide in the hotel lobby and depart for a full-day tour to the Cape Winelands featuring Franschhoek.

The lush Franschhoek Valley and the Huguenot village of Franschhoek (“French Corner”) was originally known as Olifants Hoek (“Elephant’s Corner”) after elephants took to calving in the sheltered valley with its plentiful supply of food and water.

En-route, you will stop at Boschendal Wine Estate for a guided walking tour offering rare personal insight into the history of the farm, regenerative farming practices and sustainable gardening while experiencing and enjoying the beauty of the farm and its gardens. You will also be harvesting seasonal herbs from the herb garden. Comfortable shoes and hats are recommended as this is a 1.5-hour walking tour.

Following your farm tour, you will enjoy a wine tasting and then lunch at The Werf Restaurant.

You will then travel to the town of Franschhoek, where you have the option to visit to the Huguenot Monument, situated at the foot of the Franschhoek Pass, which commemorates the arrival of the Huguenots in South Africa. Alternatively, you may explore this quaint town on your own.

The tour ends with a nougat and sparkling wine tasting at Haute Cabriere or a similar venue.

Back at your hotel you will have some time to freshen up before a final wine pairing three-course group dinner.

  • Observe iconic African wildlife in Aquila Game Reserve, enjoy breathtaking views of Cape Town from atop Table Mountain and spend another day exploring the city on your own – all immensely fulfilling experiences.

    DAY 1

Disembark in Cape Town and meet your tour guide for a tour and transfer to your hotel. En-route, visit Table Mountain, the city’s most celebrated landmark!

Travel up Kloof Nek, the saddle between Table Mountain and Lions Head, to the lower cableway station. Ascend from the Valley Station (363 m) to the Mountain Station (1 060 m) in a Swiss engineered Rotair cable car. The journey from the base to the summit takes just under 4 minutes and one can enjoy spectacular views, as the floor of the car rotates 360 degrees during the ascent and descent.

Table Mountain gets her name from the flat-topped central massif of the mountain, which, viewed from the city, is surrounded by Devil’s Peak on the left, Lion’s Head on the right and Signal Hill in the foreground. They form a sort of amphitheater that encloses the city center and some of the older suburbs. Other earlier suburbs are on either side of the chain of mountains, which run like a spine through the Cape Peninsula, from Table Mountain to Cape Point – the cape from which Cape Town gets its name.

From the summit, the natural protected area stretching from Signal Hill to Cape Point has been managed under the custodianship of the National Parks Board. This area has one of the highest concentrations of endemic plant and animal species in any area of its size, containing a staggering 2 285 plant species – more than the entire U.K.

Upon descent, re-board your vehicle and transfer to your hotel. Check-in on arrival (official check-in time is 2:00pm). Although every effort will be made to have rooms available before this time this cannot be guaranteed.

Spend the afternoon at leisure. Consider a stroll to the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront where shops, restaurants and entertainment are plenty. Lunch and dinner are on your own.

Note: the cable car ride to the top of Table Mountain is weather dependent. If not possible due to high winds a stop will be made at a viewing area near the cable car base for photos.

    DAY 2

Following an early breakfast at your hotel, depart on a 2.5-hour road transfer to Aquila Game Reserve or similar. Enjoy a welcome drink on arrival, followed by a 4 x 4 game drive, with an experienced nature guide. Thereafter, sit down to a delicious buffet lunch including two local beverages. After some free time to browse through the well-stocked curio shop, depart for a return transfer to Cape Town.

The remainder of the day will be at your leisure and dinner is on your own.

    DAY 3

Spend today at leisure, exploring the beautiful ‘Mother City’ at your own pace. Consider a ferry trip to Robben Island (individually made pre-bookings are essential via the Robben Island Ferry website), an open Red Top bus trip to numerous destinations, a hike up Lion’s Head, Wine tasting in the Winelands, or simply visiting numerous attractive beaches such as Camps Bay, Blouberg Beach or similar.
