Hong Kong & the Terra Cotta Warriors Land Program in Hong Kong, China
After arriving at Kowloon Shangri La Hotel, the remainder of the day and meals will be on your own to enjoy. Feel free to simply settle in and relax or explore areas of Hong Kong not on the itinerary.
Following breakfast on Day 2, we’ll drive to Hong Kong Island and ride the tram up to Victoria Peak. The world’s steepest funicular railway, the Peak Tram opened in 1888 and has been providing spectacular panoramas ever since. As you ascend, you may notice that the steep slope causes an optical illusion in which the skyscrapers seem to be standing at impossible angles.
You’ll continue to Aberdeen fishing village and board a sampan boat where you’ll see fishing boats, Chinese junks (ships) and villagers doing chores. The experience offers a candid look into daily life, as does your next stop—a tour of a gem factory to learn how craftsmen process stones for sale or to be set into jewelry.
Following lunch, it’s on to vibrant Stanley Market, a popular shopping destination for silk garments, Chinese costume jewelry and art. As an alternative in Stanley, you may explore Tin Hau Temple, which once stood at the edge of the sea, and the Murray House, an early 19th-Century building that was moved from its original site to the seaside.
Next, you’re off to the Central District, Hong Kong’s vibrant business and retail heart where you’ll embark on a scenic cruise on Victoria Harbor. Afterward, you’ll return to hotel and enjoy the evening and dinner on your own.
Day 3 commences with breakfast and a journey to Tung Chung, a city on Lantau, Hong Kong’s largest island. You’ll enjoy its lush and mountainous landscape while riding a cable car to Ngong Ping village.
Nearby, we’ll take you to Po Lin Monastery. More than 100 feet tall, it attracts pilgrims from all over Asia. After a vegetarian lunch at the monastery, you’ll explore Ngong Ping village on your own—be sure to visit the large Buddha and the intricately designed teahouse.
After returning to your hotel, you’ll have the remainder of the day, dinner and evening to enjoy on your own.
NOTA: Due to the amount of guests that may participate in this program, guests may be split into two groups by our local operator and Days 2 and 3 may be reversed. For this reason, it’s imperative to advise Regent Seven Seas Cruises at least 14 days before the program starts of any traveling companions so that our ground operator can do their best to place you in the same group.
After breakfast on Day 4, you’ll check out of the hotel and continue on your getaway.
