Spend hours exploring atmospheric Florence independently and on an enlightening guided walk as the sun dips below the horizon. The town will be especially radiant during the golden hour – that magical time right before sunset when the light appears warmer and softer. As you follow the guide from Piazza Savonarola and through the pedestrian-only zone, you will behold one architectural landmark after another. Highlights include the Duomo – whose dome legendary 15th-century architect Filippo Brunelleschi designed – and the shop-lined bridge Ponte Vecchio, which has spanned the Arno River since medieval times. It is the only Florentine bridge to survive World War II. Approximately three hours of free time follows, during which you might drop by Michelangelo’s final resting place in the Basilica di Santa Croce and meander about lesser-known areas that you may find appealing. You will also enjoy plenty of options to dine on your own as extraordinary restaurants are abundant.
