Land Programs & Hotels

  • Step off your cruise and into the vibrant tapestry of Tokyo, where ancient rituals and modern wonders blend effortlessly. Savor the tranquility of serene gardens, witness the artistry of a traditional tea ceremony, and experience the energy of bustling markets. This exclusive post-cruise program invites you to explore renowned landmarks, indulge in authentic Japanese flavors, and create lasting memories in a city where every moment is a celebration of culture and beauty. Join us for an unforgettable journey through Tokyo’s timeless traditions and contemporary delights.

    Special Notes:

•This program involves walking distances at times over uneven ground. It is not recommended for guests who require use of wheelchair, walker or cane.

•Please advise the RSSC Reservations team when you book this program should you have any special dietary restrictions or requirements. Requests will be sent to our local ground operators for review. In Japan, dietary requests including vegetarian cannot be accommodated on the day, so please notify in advance for review.

•In general, hotel rooms in Japan are smaller than hotel rooms elsewhere around the world. Per Japanese culture, standard typical bedding is two twin beds. Although every effort will be made to obtain rooms with one bed for couples, this cannot be guaranteed. Should you require two beds, kindly make sure to advise this when booking your program.

    DAY 1

Upon disembarking your ship in Tokyo, meet your guide and commence your tour of the city.

Your first stop will be Hama Rikyu Garden, a prominent landscaped area situated in central Tokyo. The garden features seawater ponds and a traditional tea house. Originally constructed as the Tokyo residence and duck hunting grounds for a feudal lord during the Edo Period (1603-1867), it later functioned as both a strolling garden and an imperial detached palace before its opening to the public in its present form. With Tokyo’s contemporary skyline serving as a backdrop, the setting is truly distinctive. The seasonal trees and flowers, such as maple and ginkgo, contribute to a tranquil atmosphere.

Continue to The Tokyo National Museum, recognized as Japan’s oldest and largest national museum. It houses extensive collections of artworks and archaeological artifacts ranging from ancient art (11,000 BC) to the Edo period (early 19th century). The museum offers insight into Japanese culture, including Zen, ink painting, tea ceremonies, and fashion arts.

Following lunch at a local restaurant, visit Tokyo Tower, a renowned landmark that serves as both an active broadcasting tower and a popular site for visitors seeking panoramic views of the city.

Afterward, you will transfer to your hotel, proceed with check-in, and enjoy the remainder of your evening at leisure with dinner on your own.

The Prince Park Tower Tokyo features a striking open atrium lobby and the high-rise Stellar Garden, where guests can sip signature cocktails while admiring views of the iconic Tokyo Tower. The hotel is surrounded by lush greenery and rises above downtown Tokyo, with stylish rooms offering sweeping views of both the city skyline and nearby parks. Located in the lively heart of Tokyo, guests have immediate access to restaurants, shops, bars, and galleries. Major attractions like Tokyo Tower and the historic Zojo-ji Temple are just a short stroll away, while Akabanebashi and Shibakoen subway stations are conveniently located only minutes from the hotel.

Note: There are a few steps to enter the Tokyo National Museum. An elevator is available inside the museum. There is also a walk of about 5 minutes from the parking lot to the museum entrance. Hama Rikyu’s ground is uneven in some places with steps here and there. If Day 1 falls on a Monday, the visit to the Tokyo National Museum will be changed to Day 2 as it is closed on Monday’s.

    DAY 2

Begin your morning with breakfast at your hotel and then set out for an extraordinary cultural experience at the Shunkaen Bonsai Art Museum.

Here, you'll immerse yourself in the elegance of a traditional Japanese tea ceremony, where a skilled master will demonstrate the meticulous preparation of matcha, or powdered green tea. This centuries-old ritual, cherished for nearly 800 years, celebrates the spirit of “once-in-a-lifetime meeting.” Savor the unique flavors of matcha as you witness the artistry and precision of this revered custom.

Next, discover the captivating world of origami—the Japanese art of paper folding. Enjoy a hands-on demonstration where you’ll learn about the significance of the crane, a symbol of long life in Japanese culture. Under the guidance of an expert, try your hand at folding your own origami crane and take home your creation as a special memento of your visit.

After these unforgettable cultural activities, gather in the museum’s main garden to receive a brief introduction to the museum itself and the delicate artistry of Bonsai. Take your time to stroll through the stunning bonsai displays and tranquil gardens, soaking in the serene, harmonious atmosphere before continuing on your journey.

After your visit, return to your hotel where the remainder of the afternoon is at your leisure. Lunch and dinner will be on your own.

    Note:

Guests participating in the Tea Ceremony will be asked to remove their shoes and be seated on the floor (Japanese Tatami mat). The Master of Tea or Origami will communicate in English; however, their proficiency may differ from that of the guide. Depending on the size of the group, it may be divided into two smaller groups with one starting with the tea ceremony and the other starting with the origami presentation and then swap.

    DAY 3

Following breakfast at your hotel, visit Tsukiji Hongwanji, a unique Buddist Temple belonging to the Jodo Shinshu Hongwanji-ha denomination. Founded in the early 17th century, the temple has an impressive exterior of lotus motifs, minarets, and columns which were inspired by Southeast Asian, European, and Islamic culture.

Next, immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of Tsukiji Fish Market—Japan’s renowned “Food Town.”

Once reserved for professional wholesalers, today Tsukiji invites visitors to discover an array of authentic

Japanese cuisine. Wander bustling streets lined with a variety of stalls, retail shops, and local eateries offering fresh and delicious specialties, making this a must-see destination for food lovers.

Return to your hotel where the remainder of the day is at your leisure. Lunch and dinner will be on your own.

    DAY 4

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel before checking out and transferring to either Narita or the Haneda International Airports by private vehicle. Your transfer time will be based on the flight details provided and relayed to you during the program. Check out is at 12:00pm. Should you have a late departing flight, luggage storage will be available at the hotel.

Note: A private van or SUV will be used to transfer couples or parties of two between the airport and the hotel. Vans hold a maximum of four pieces of large luggage (total) plus one carry-on sized bag per person. A sedan will be used for solo guests, which can hold 2 large suitcases and a carry-on. If you will have more luggage, a larger vehicle may be required for additional cost. Please advise your booking agent at least 14 days before sailing if a larger vehicle is required. Transfers are with driver only.

Land Program Details Step by Step:

•Please note: The order of sites visited may vary to avoid congestion.

•Itineraries with the most up to date details (at the time) will be issued when you are emailed your final cruise documents 21 days prior to sailing.

•Final itineraries with the most up to date details will be provided by the Destination Services Team once you board the ship. Please review your final itinerary carefully for any amendments.

•The hotels used for your land program will be the hotels listed in this document unless you have been advised otherwise in advance of the land program start date.

    DAY 1

Disembark the ship in Tokyo, collect your luggage and meet your guide.

Your Tokyo exploration will commence with a panoramic drive through Ginza, Tokyo's renowned upscale district celebrated for its shopping, dining, and entertainment options, as well as its numerous department stores.

Proceed to Hama Rikyu Garden, a centrally located garden in the city that features seawater ponds and a traditional tea house. Originally constructed as a feudal lord's residence and duck hunting ground during the Edo Period, the site was later used as a strolling garden and an imperial detached palace before being opened to the public in its current state. The gardens are situated against the backdrop of present-day skyscrapers, making it a unique place to visit.

Note: the grounds have some areas with steps, cobblestones, and uneven pathways.

Proceed to Odawara for lunch at a local restaurant, visit Odawara Castle, which is a three-tiered, five-story structure first built in the mid-15th century. The original building was demolished in the 19th century during the change from the Edo shogunate to the Meiji government, as the castle was seen as a symbol of samurai rule.

The current building is a reconstruction completed in 1960; the moat and stone walls are original, and the top floor functions as an observatory.

Note: There is no elevator, however there are wheelchair-accessible areas and restrooms.

Your journey continues to the Fujiya Hotel in Hakone, named in honor of Mount Fuji, an iconic symbol of Japan. Established in 1878, this distinguished resort hotel withstood numerous challenges, including natural disasters, and many of its buildings have been designated as tangible cultural properties. Guests are invited to appreciate the rich history and picturesque environment surrounding the hotel. The property features traditional Japanese hot spring baths, ideal for therapeutic relaxation, with access to the Miyanoshita hot spring, one of Hakone’s seven celebrated springs.

    Enjoy dinner at the hotel.

Note: There are separate facilities for men and women, and guests with visible tattoos are requested to refrain from using the bathing areas.

    DAY 2

After a restful night’s sleep, begin your day with breakfast and then meet your guide. Your first stop is at the Hakone Shrine, a 1,500-year-old spiritual site where visitors seek blessings for safe travel and family well-being.

Next, enjoy panoramic views from the Hakone Komagatake Ropeway, which transports you from the shores of Lake Ashi to the central peak in Hakone. Weather permitting, you may also have the opportunity to view the incredible Mt. Fuji.

Note: There are stairs to board the ropeway back to the station, which is not accessible.

After lunch at a local restaurant, proceed to the Venetian Glass Museum, Japan's first dedicated art museum showcasing Venetian glass where you’ll explore the garden and view beautiful glass artwork spanning the 15th to 19th centuries, as well as modern works that have been created using past techniques.

Note: Venetian Glass Museum has plenty of seating areas (inside and out) for those who need to rest between walking. There is an accessible toilet available by the main museum building but the door.

Conclude the day with your return to Tokyo and check in to a centrally located hotel, conveniently situated near many shops and restaurants. Dinner will be at your leisure.

    DAY 3

After breakfast at your hotel, meet your guide and begin the day with a visit to Tokyo Tower, which functions as both an operational broadcasting tower and a location where visitors can get a dynamic view the city.

Following lunch at a local restaurant, proceed to the Tokyo National Museum, the oldest and largest national museum in Japan, which houses an extensive collection of artwork and archaeological artifacts ranging from ancient pieces dating back to 11,000 BC to works from the Edo period (early 19th century).

Note: there is a five-minute walk from the drop-off point to the museum entrance, with a few steps required to enter; however, an elevator is available within the museum.

You will then pass by the National Diet Building, where both houses of Japan’s National Diet meet. This building is noted for its architectural design and historical relevance, serving as a prominent governmental landmark in central Tokyo.

Return to your hotel in the late afternoon. The remainder of the day is at your leisure and dinner is on your own

    DAY 4

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel before checking out and transferring by private vehicle to either Narita or Haneda International Airports.

Your transfer time will be based on the flight details provided and relayed while you are on the program. Should you have a late departing flight, luggage storage will be available at the hotel. Guests will be required to check-out by 12:00pm at the latest.

Note: A private van or SUV will be used to transfer couples or parties of two between the airport and the hotel.
